We LOVE it!!!

WOW!!!! Parents, first I just want to say that you have aMAZing teens. I knew that before we came, and feel it even stronger now. I love them all dearly and count it a great privilege to be over here loving on all these precious orphans with them. Thank you again for releasing them to do this. We’ve already seen God do awesome things in them and we’ve only just begun!!

I want to give you a quick rundown of the trip. The flight went smoothly. It was fun – long, but so fun traveling with that many people. The kids switched seats every so often and that worked out really good. All three flights went without a hitch. Your prayers were totally felt all along the way. Only once did we even have some major turbulence....of course it was while we were eating a meal.  We had to hold our drinks to keep them from spilling. Felt kinda like a roller coaster ride so most of us loved it. Teehee!! Oh…. And Taylor flew for the first time. We had so much fun watching him.

We got here at night and were all like a bunch of zombies walking around. Most of us slept on the 1 ½ van ride to our hotel. We are so pleased with our hotel. It feels very secure and it’s just the right size for us. It’s basically one hall with 5 rooms on each side. There are 5 rooms with 3 and 5 rooms with 2. After tonight we are switching it up and will do that every 3 to two nights.

We all crashed in our beds the first night about midnight and slept like babies. Cari….our precious, quiet leader here had our time planned from the get go, and we loved it. We got up and started right away. While Rodney, Cari and I went to the airport to pick up Stacy and Liz, the rest went with Cari’s two helpers, Annette and Charles to paint a couple of rooms at a school near by. Everything we will be doing is within walking distance from the hotel so that’s really nice. But your kids are going to get in great shape.

That afternoon we went to Cari’s and ate a wonderful lunch her cooks prepared – rice and beans and cabbage…quite yummy. Then there was a short rest time and then we did what Kayla talks about. Today we visited Cari’s church and had a wonderful message on Daniel and Jesus and what it means to be a true hero. It was very pertinent. Now we’re at the mall where we ate lunch…the kids can describe the crazy experience. So…..that’s all for now.
We love it!! Everyone is well. We’ve been hearing great sharing from your kids in the evening.

Love to you all ….thanks for your prayers!! Clarissa

Romans 4 is all about how Abraham was justified by faith: our group has so much potential to have that. It is great to a part of this whole experience. Josiah Davidson

“The more we get together, together, together… the more we get together, the happier we’ll be.” Yesterday evening we visited a hospital and sang and danced with all the children. We took a little bit of time to let the children sing some songs to us. One of the songs the kids “taught” us was the one above. After they sang through it one kid at a time would jump into a line and say his or her name, and then everyone would sing the word “together.” After all the kids went through their names, our team joined in and said our names. It was really cool to realize at that moment that God is a global God. It’s not just our team or our church or even all the believers in the USA who are united under Christ. It is every believer in the whole world, even the little children in a hospital in Uganda. Kayla Roop

Ahh! Africa. Chris Tuttle

Hi Mom, Dad, Logan, McKenna, Rico, and family—love you mucho, Parker

We are here and having the time of our lives! This country is AMAZING, God is so great! Holding little African babies could never be more satisfying. You learn that love is the best thing that you can give. Because they are happy with life as it is! Words cannot explain all that I want to say… all I can say is that I LOVE IT! Lacey Platner

I came to Uganda knowing that my life would not be the same after I got home… I didn’t realize that the children would teach me so much… they have so little, but they love life; they’re so happy; it almost makes me ashamed of myself! My life will never be the same after this… I love it! Katelyn Rackley

I am in love with this country. I want to take every child home with me. Uganda is everything I pictured and so much more. These people are so happy and joyful and I LOVE it! Shannon Pere

Oh my dear goodness!! I’ve never felt this at home in any of the places I’ve traveled. I just want to stay here forever, and if I can’t do that then I could just settle for taking all the children home with me (especially Hurbert). All I have to say is T.I.A. (This is Africa) and I love it! Liz Harter

To finally be here… the reality of it still hasn’t sunk in. The need is immense and it’s such a reminder that God doesn’t need me—on my own, I can’t do anything at all. But Hallelujah Jesus that through His power—anything is possible. Yes, the need is great—but the hope here is greater. Because, unlike America at the moment, Africa wants Jesus. God, give us a want—a desire—to never be satisfied to stay where we are… but always go deeper, farther, and higher. Megan Toney

Oh my word! Am I really here? I think it’s going to take a while longer for that reality to sink in. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how welcoming it is here. It’s so much fun to be walking down the street and all these kids come running towards you. They are so much fun. I am so excited to call this place “home” for the next 3 weeks. Shelby Delay

There is such a sense of community here in Africa. People truly care about others, and there is an overwhelming feeling of joy. We are having so much fun! Miss everyone so much! Happy Day! Abby Benson

Be warned: I’m bringing home kids!!!!! Tyler Rosenthal

We’ve only been here for one full day and it feels like forever! The love and joy and beauty of Jesus are everywhere you look. I am so glad God chose to use us to share His love here in Uganda. He definitely doesn’t need me, but He chose to use me and that is such a blessing. His love and joy and laughter are contagious and unforgettable. Love to all—Taylor Thompson

Wow! There aren’t words to describe what we are getting to experience. God is showing me so much and we have only been here for one full day. I can’t wait to see how much he will reveal during the next like 17 to 18 days! Love you! Macy Epp

I love this country!! The people are incredible and unique. The weather is a little hot though…. David Eliason

We serve an amazing and faithful God. And He has been so good to us! He has answered so many prayers, and we are grateful that you are lifting us up to Him while we are in this beautiful and friendly country. Your kids are doing well, and you would be proud of how they are caring for one another and interacting with the Ugandan children. There have been a few tears and upset stomachs, but we are seeing how “His strength is perfect when ours is gone.” We’ve laughed a lot too! You should have seen Tyler dancing for the children yester—a traditional Ugandan dance, “Tyler style”  Nookie

All these other comments have pretty much covered it, so yea. What keeps coming to mind is “White as Snow” by Jon Foreman. Enough said. Luke Smith

Luke and friends...I am delighted in reading your post. It is early Sunday morning here and you are probably getting ready for dinner...I read this in my prayer journal today and wanted to share it with you:
Today Lord, let me put right before interest; let me put others before self: let me put the things of the spirt before the things of the body: let me put the attainment of noble ends above the enjoyment of present pleasures: let me put principle above reputation: let me put Thee before all else.
...O give me a heart like His-a brave heart, a true heart a tender heart a heart fixed on Thyself; for His name's sake. Amen.

This is my prayer for you today. As I read each entry, I am getting to know all of you. I am so proud of you. -Karen

Charlie Loften spoke in church today and actually said the words, "If you put your fingers in your mouth on a mission trip, you're going to get sick". HA! :) I couldn't believe it!!! I am praying for you all the time. Im wearing my Africa necklace everyday. I've never missed you this much because when you're gone, you always have your cell. Shelby,
I am so excited to hear from you. I know you don't feel very well. (look I said "well" not "good")
I talked to a pharmacist friend at church this morning. His advice is:
Take your malaria medication with a meal containing a substantial amount of protein. He said breakfast may not be the best meal. If possible, find a store that has a liquid antacid like Maalox or Mylanta. The Pepto Bismol won't do the trick. It needs to contain aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. You won't proably find those brand names over there but you should able able to find something.
similar.
Then in this order( and he said it is important that you follow order)
#1Eat a meal with protein
#2Take a dose of antacid
#3take medication shortly
afterwards.

I ran into Merri Chandler and Claudette Ripley between services. With tears in my eyes I shared with them the text I had recieved from you this morning. They looked at eachother and at me and told me to go to worship. I was amazed... god told Charlie lofton to teach about missions this morning.. he talked about how when we are called to do things for the Kingdom we assume if we are in God's will everything will go right but in reality we should expect things to go wrong. When Satan and his demons view you as a threat they will use every thing in their power to create obstacles that might thwart your efforts.Anything of great spiritual value is going to be opposed. Wow!! You should feel special just knowing Satan sees you as a dangerous threat!!

Okay, I could go on and on but you know that already... it was just a message this momma needed to hear today...

Here are the outline points from the message (Great for the whole team)
#1 Do not waiver from God's call on your life
#2When following God's call expect trials and obstacles
#3Expect God to do amazing things along the way

I love you Shelby and hope you feel better soon!!!

Guys, It's been so weird being at home in Little Rock while you all are having the time of your lives in Africa! It almost doesn't seem fair :) but I know that God is gonna do CRAZY awesome things in each of us this summer. Honestly, me, susie, kylie and khani (Yes, the only 4 of us left in Little Rock....) we wouldn't want you here. We want you right where you are cause God is working in all of you, and he has a reason you're there. I know you'll come home changed for the better, with tons of stories and inside jokes I'm sure :) Just remember, God doesn't only use you in Africa. God needs you here too :) so as you come home in like...forever, remember that you live in a missions field! So learn all you can there, and then come home and apply it!

So to all of my amazing African friends...I love you and miss you terribly. My prayers and thoughts are with you. This is my prayer for you, "May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Sheperd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." Hebrews 13:20-21

You friend, Jackie A.

Dear Katelyn,
Hi babe!! I love you and miss you terribly! It's so exciting to read about your first day there. My heart is in Uganda with you. It's coloring everything I do as I pack and sort things to move from TX. I find myself constantly figuring out what time it is in Kampala and wondering what you're doing.
Oh yea, don't forget to take a few pictures (ha ha!!)

Clarissa,
I've thoroughly enjoyed a few more days with your girlies!!Saturday we went to the Marlow Manor pool again. This time with no thunder. We stayed for 4 hours!! We left just in time to run home , change into dry clothes and make the matinee showing of UP. It was cute, you might have to go when you get back as I'm sure it's one the girls would see again. After the movie we made a trip to Sam's to stock up on chicken nuggets.I'm thinking that must be a staple at your house.Shannon loved pushing them both in the big basket and for once I really didn't mind that they were a little loud and she was pushing a little fast.Your girls make even a trip to Sam's fun!!
After I tucked them in and said prayers and thought everyone was fast asleep, Mikayla got up a little sad. She wanted to talk to some family. She called Cara and then Asa. Asa,bless his sweet big brother's heart drove over to my house and loved on her. After he and I talked we decided it was a good night for her to go home and spend the night with her older siblings. Emma elected to stay here and slept great. Asa brought Mikayla to church this morning and she rejoined Shannon and Emma and went to the Edge first service and then they went to their classes second service. After church they got to visit with Cara and Doug.We didn't get away from the church building until almost 1:00 but it was a great time for brothers and sisters to connect and get some loving.
We spent the afternoon at the parkway place pool.So.. I'm sitting there talking to Eddie the pool guy. He knows your family and was asking all about ya'll and what we've heard and all.One thing led to another as conversations do and as it turns out I've known Eddie since I was probably Emma's age.We grew up in the same neighborhood and I haven't seen him 30 years but I remember him and he remembers me.It was just one of those small world moments.

As Kelly said above, we have a trip planned to Wild River Country Tomorrow.I'm so glad your girls like water!!

They have read every post here and are loving hearing from the whole team. They really enjoyed finding everyone in the pictures from the airport.Post more as you are able.

Oh, tell Shelby that my pharmacist friend texted me this afternoon after I had posted to her and said she can split her pills in half and take 1/2 at lunch and the other 1/2 at dinner and see if taking smaller doses help her.

We love and miss you all and are so excited to hear of the great things that are yet to come!!

I hope VBS went well today. We all prayed as a family for you last night (for you and all the other stuff in our life right now) and we really feel your vacancy.
I love that you are eating rice and beans...now whenever I make something with beans, you will have to eat it... :-)
I love you, and I am praying your Malarone is not upsetting your stomach.
Right now, put the backs of your hands together...(don't question it, just do it)

Lydia: Well, I have finished my Mon.job of prayer sheet & updated the fact that Lacey Platner is w/yall!! I didn't make the connection until Prince, her grfather, asked me about the trip at church yestday. I had made some schedules for my SS class so they could pray, so I got him one to follow. Shelby's mom had told us about a car accident that involved Crain's in which an elderly woman was injured--she is Gladys Rounsavall who used to go to BCLR. I think she is out of ICU so I'm going over to see her when I finish this. You are EVER in my prayers for His direction and protection as you minister there. Timewise I think you are on the streets even as I write. Know that you are always in my thoughts & prayers. Luv, Mom

Kate: Ditto above, although you probably don't know the injured woman!! I am also praying that the medicine situation works out & that all will be feeling well--up to the challenges you ALL are facing!! May the Lord's direction be clear to all--esp. you & Lydia! Luv, GrandK8

Shelby, Andrea, Josiah and Katelyn,

A bunch of ya'lls siblings enjoyed eachother at Wild River Country this morning. Shannon and Melissa got to know eachtother... they are only a few months apart in age so it was a good thing for them to meet another who is missing a big sister.Maybe you two big sissies can do something with your little sisters when you get back to LR. Mikayla and Emma were excited to see Laura and Benjie. It's been awile since I had little ones small enough to enjoy the tadpool so I had a great time just watching, Nate, Annie and Garrett. Of course Nate thinks he's big enough to hang with the older kids so he split his time between us and them. It's wonderful to see how our families are loving on eachother as we are missing you all.

Hi to Andrea and Josiah, Mommy and Daddy from Mikayla and Emma.We love you and miss you.

I read something in John Pipers book today that is applicable to everyone but thought about you and the team...it's a prayer "O Lord, let me make a difference for you utterly disproportionate to who I am." Hey Katelyn!
Well, Kristen isn't coming to spend the night. She's gonna take Melissa to dinner and then stay at a hotel with her mom in Searcy.

We're headed back to TX in the morning. Cleaning out and going through stuff. Getting ready for a big garage sale on Saturday.

You're constantly in my thoughts and prayers. The kids have really improved their "adding by 8s" skills as they add 8 hours to the time several times a day and announce what time it is in Uganda! Ü

Annie said to me from the back seat today, "Is Katelyn coming home tomorrow?" then in a whispered voice she said, "please say yes, please say yes." We all LOL!!!

We have made a calendar to X of the days until you come home. So Annie is pretty happy about that!!

Well, I guess I'll go. We miss you tons. Have you talked to Clarissa and Rodney about Nomads?? Dad and I just talked about it and our future more last night.

Can't wait til you're home...but I know you're where you're supposed to be.

Love ya~

Not sure how often you all will check for posts since your schedule does not allow you all to post every day... Just praying for you and missing you even though I know you're exactly where you are supposed to be right now. I text you often throughout the day but this allows me to say much more :)!! I am quoting Matt.6:27 over and over every time I "worry" about you! It's such a good feeling to know God has you exactly where He can use you. I pray that you will look to Him when you're heart is breaking for these orphans... read Psalm 31:24. Dad and Mitch are at the gym, Maverick keeps going in to your room and getting on your bed... We will ALL be glad to see you on June 30 when you return :)!! I'm really glad that I can call and text you next year when you are at Tech next year--not hearing your voice is VERY hard... Miss you SO much and I love you baby girl!

Clarissa,It's Tuesday evening here and you all are fast asleep.
Had to let you know I took your girls to my best friend Lisa's farm yesterday evening. They told me they loved horse so I knew just where to go find some. They fed horses apples and pet them and chased chickens. We might have canoed but it was too hot. They said they might like to go back. I'd love to take you all out there sometime.
We've had another fun day. I had a meeting today with some childcare staff so Emma and Mikayla got to spend some time with Sydney. I dropped them off at the Hammmons house and then they met the Eckerds at the pool.I picked them up at 3:00, we took Shannon to Bible Study at 4:30 and played on the church playground for awhile.Trying to think of things that my kids enjoyed when they were the ages of your girls, we went to the dollar store and I told them they could each get one thing, anything they wanted.Emma got a boucy ball and Mikayla chose some glue on rinestones for her nails. Please forgive me!!Since it was the three of us , we headed over to Pizza Hut where kids are free on Tuesday nights. It jusy so happens that I grew up with don the Magician who hangs out at Pizza Hut making balloon animals on kids night. He really enjoyed your girls. They ended up with more than their fair share of animals and hats and swords and other balloon creations. They have quite a collection. The girls were precious... I'm not sure but it might have been the first time Don has gotten hugs and heartfelt thanks from the kids he entertains.
It's almost 9:00 here. I let Shannon go home with a friend to sleepover after FSM so the girls are tucked into her bed all cozy for the night. We have another busy day planned tomorrow. We are headed downtown in the AM.We'll tell you all about it later.

Love you all!!

Shelby,
I'm assuming no news is good news. Either that or your just too busy loving on little children to bother about how cruddy you feel.I've had several people tell me that their malaria medication made them feel sick but it passed over time. Hopefully you are feeling better because I'm thinking you must not have gotten my post yet with the pharmacists suggestions.
Tad and Libby have changed wedding plans yet again. They have settled on August 15th. It's a Saturday and it will be a very small gathering of immediate family and very close friends, like 25 or 30 people total. So it looks like you won't have to wear a pink formal dress after all....did I hear a sigh of relief.
I've fun telling Emma and Mikayla that I got a two for one trade when I swapped their parents one of my children for two of theirs. It was only yesterday that we figured out that since you are 17 and they are 8 and 9 we really did an even trade.Get it?,8 plus 9 = 17...They thought it was funny anyway.
Speaking of funny, oh my goodness they think Daddy's jokes are funny. They love being called thing 1 and thing 2 although Mikayla told him they are really thing 8 and thing 9.
Shannon started FSM officailly on Sunday and went to her first Bible study today with Nancy.I pray that she has the same kind of love for the church and passion for Jesus that her big sister has.She has certainly had a great role model in you.
Daddy and I are so proud of you. We love you.

I continue to pray that you will know the deep things God want to teach you and that you will serve and love in the power of the Spirit. Also, how is your stomach? I pray for your health too.. Mommy and Chris,

I miss y'all so much (especially Mommy...sorry Chris) ;) and I honestly don't know how I'm gonna make it 3 weeks without talking on the phone with you since we've only gone literally like 3 days before without a phone call. Anyways, things are good here in Maryland...had an awesome time with the Wegas in Gettysburg. And, Chris, took pics of my Toms with Little Round Top in the background (my fave shoes with my fave place!). I love y'all more than pink, Gone With the Wind, Starbucks vanilla lattes, Vera Bradley, Diet DP, and my pink cellphone! Miss you tons too!

Love your daughter and sister,
Katie

Clarissa,

It's Wednesday evening as I am writing this note. We've had a fun day. We went downtown today. The girls had fun making their own lotions at Bath Junkie. Girl,do they smell good. We ate grilled cheeses sandwiches at The Hop and walked down to the Peabody Hotel where we rode the glass elevator up to the penthouse. They enjoyed seeing the ducks even though we weren't there for the grand march. After the Peabody we met a friend and her daughter Kylah, who is Emma's age and in her class at church, and walked a few blocks to catch the trolley. We rode the trolley over the bridge and back. Then we went down to Riverfront Park and played in the water park and on the playground. When we were played out and as hot as we could stand it, we made a Sonic run just in time for happy hour slushes.
We all came home totally wiped out and veged out for awhile and watched a movie.
Shannon is outside with the girls now catching lightening bugs. It's just about time for me to go spoil their fun and have them come in to get ready for bed.
It's my last night with your girls. Honestly, I hate to give them up. I called Krisit Eckerd today and told her I'd like to keep them all day tomorrow and it works out great since she has a meeting in the afternoon.Shannon and I would like to have one more day, we haven't run out of fun things to do yet:D

We pray for you ,Rodney, Andrea and Josiah every day. The girls love and miss you but are honestly doing great!!

Shelbybelby,

I love and miss you so so much.I really missed you today at Bath Junkie but Emma can take almost as long as you testing every scent in the place trying to find just the right one....Then we had to walk right past Flying Burrito to get to The Hop where the girls all voted we eat lunch. I knew if you were here at least you would have voted with me....then at the Peabody Shannon said, " Shelby said,"we should" do this and Shelby said, "we should" do that....then at the park we could see the bridge and I thought of you racing to the top of it at Jackie's party...
I guess you could say I thought of you a lot today...
I hope you are feeling well and are doing great things. We are praying for you everyday.

Love , Mom <><
